Checkout Google Checkout

Mike Arrington has given Google checkout a pretty good review on the TechCrunch website, they have been using it for some of their stuff, billing event sponsors, etc, and like it better than paypal, but if you check out the comments, they seem to have a problem with something some of the commenter’s don’t, fees for refunds. I’ve only used it once, when I purchased my little girl her Halloween costume for Halloween from Buycostumes.com, and never as a merchant, but, they are currently running a special until the end of the year. They are waiving all transaction fees until the end of the year, so this might be a good opportunity for some merchants to check them out while saving some fees from their credit card processors.

Google seems to be pretty serious about their little PayPal killer, and is releasing a steady stream of new features that appear to be addressing merchant needs. This is a product that we’ve been using steadily since launch to bill event sponsors. It’s had some hiccups, particularly around some overly aggressive fraud controls that cancelled a bunch of transactions, but overall we’ve been pleased with the product, and it presents a less intrusive checkout experience for the person paying than PayPal (which we use for our CrunchBoard job board). I just hate giving Google even more info on myself and family, lord knows what they already have. ;)
