Latest Iron Man 2 Trailer
I remember when they first announced Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, fanboys everywhere were screaming no, she’ll suck. She looks like a good choice if you ask me, and in this trailer, check out the Iron Man suit that comes from his briefcase, just like the comics only it’s automatic. I can’t wait until this movie comes out.

Dave Stevens, Rest in Peace
I really hated to hear this, but Dave Stevens passed away March 10th, losing his battle with Leukemia. Who was Dave Stevens you ask? He was my absolute favorite comic book artist of all time. He’s very easy to collect since he was a perfectionist and would work all day on one panel of one page of the comic he was working. Drawing, then redrawing, changing it, and always thinking it could be better.

He was most famous for creating the Rocketeer, a pulp fiction type of comic book which Harlan Ellison said “are hip-deep in the right kind of nostalgia . . . adventure and affection, melded in just the right way. . . .”. It was later made into an excellent movie, one I have watched on demand about ten times this year. He was also known for the good girl art, including making the heroine of the Rocketeer look like Betty Page, and pinup girl from the 50’s, I believe. I bought the print below years ago, I should get it framed.

Captain America Dead at 90

It appears one of America’s first heroes died this week, Captain America was shot and killed by an unknown assassin and one man they have in custody. They believe the second man made the fatal, close range shots that killed him. Born on July 4 1917, Steve Rogers lived in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City, with his parents Sarah and Joseph Rogers. By the early 1940s, before America’s entry into World War II, Rogers was a tall 6′2″ but skinny American fine arts student specializing in illustration. Disturbed by the rise of the Third Reich, Rogers attempts to enlist in the army, only to be rejected due to his poor constitution. A U.S. Army officer looking for test subjects offered Steve the chance to serve his country by taking part in a top-secret defense project, Operation: Rebirth, which seeks to develop a means of creating physically superior soldiers. Rogers volunteers for the research and, after a rigorous selection process, is chosen as the first human test subject for the Super-Soldier serum developed by the scientist “Dr. Reinstein”, later retroactively changed to a code name for the scientist Abraham Erskine. From Wikipedia.
Created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1941, Captain America was the peak of human potential, he was a master technician and commander, did you ever see anyone else lead the Avengers into battle, if he was around? With his virbanium shield, he would take on anyone, and, relying on only his own physical abilities and intelligence, he could beat most of them. From the Daily Bugle,
Earlier today, we reported on the attempted assassination of a former superhero. We can now confirm that the victim has been identified as Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America. Rogers was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital due to injuries suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to the shoulder, chest and stomach.
Eyewitness reports claim that the initial bullet, tagging Rogers in the shoulder, came from a sniper perched atop or in one of the buildings adjacent to the Federal Courthouse. Several other shots were fired during the ensuing commotion–hitting Rogers in the chest and stomach–but witnesses fleeing the scene, as well as the U.S. Marshals who were escorting Rogers, have stated there was only one sniper shot fired. Here is a video from CBSnews talking about it, they talk to Joe Quesada and the owner of Midtown Comics, as well as a fan.
Captain, sir, you will be missed.

Marvels Massive Multiplayer Online
It was announced at X06 that Cryptic will join Marvel and Microsoft Game Studios in developing a Marvel Universe MMO for both the Xbox 360 and Windows Vista platform, and will allow seamless play for players on either system. Seamless.
This is the game I have been waiting for, but I hope they have a few things in it in addition to the MMO.
I want it to have single person mode where you can play any Marvel character or create your own.
I want it to have a versus mode, where you can play any Marvel character or create your own.
In MMO play, I want to be able to interact with all of the Marvel super heroes.
In MMO play, I want it to occasionally run one of these big events, Secret Wars, Civil War, etc.
In MMO play, I want to be able to play as part of a team, Avengers, Defenders, etc.
In MMO play, if I am a villain, I want to be able to do everything a villain would do, try to take over the city, world, etc.
In MMO play, if I am a villain, I want to be able to attack heroes, or vice versa.
I know, I know, but I can dream can’t I? All I know for sure right now is I will be purchasing this game, oh yes.
Stay tuned true believers.

San Diego Comic Con
Anyone who knows me, knows I’m a geek, a collector and comic book buff. One of these days I am going to make to the biggest comic book convention on the planet, the San Diego Comic Con. Of course it’s not merely a comic book convention anymore, as many new films are debuted or pumped up here, as well as TV shows like Lost, or the new Heroes show coming out on NBC. Heck, I think they even had panels on Spiderman 3, which doesn’t come out until next year.
What is really cool nowadays, is that on the cable station G4, they have had shows talking about what is going on during the con, they are even filming the shows at the con, with the fans standing around and watching. This is really cool, as San Diego is a long ways away from me, and will require a big outlay of cash just to get there and stay, let alone go and buy the stuff I’ll be looking for.
If you need more in depth coverage, because, let face it, how many lame jokes can you put up with from the hosts of the G4 show, and how many times do we have to hear the guy hit on the girl in some sort of geekish way? I think I would much rather have a couple “real” geeks simply talk about the show and show some of the sites from the con instead of a couple who are only interested because they are on a TV show. Anyway, if you need more coverage, visit Newsarama, the premiere site on the web for comics and comics related stuff. One story that stands out right now is the story about how Marvel is putting together the lost Fantastic four episode that never got completely published by Lee and Kirby. Apparently, they just used some of the panels as part of a story that was never told before in issue #108, so we are actually going to get to see the completed story, once Lee scripts it and, hopefully, Joe Sinnott will be available to ink it. I can’t wait to see it. Maybe they should let Joe ink it and then get someone like Scott Williams to ink a copy and see what he could do with it.

Frank Miller to Direct Will Eisner’s Spirit
Can’t wait to see this film. Apparently Frank Miller, one of the greatest comic book story tellers of all time, has agreed to direct the film adaption of Will Eisner’s Spirit, another of the greatest story tellers of all time. How can this be wrong? Filming is scheduled to start next year.
When (Uslan) invited me to do this, first I said I can’t do this and then I said I can’t let anybody else touch it,” Miller told Variety. “I intend to be extremely faithful to the heart and soul of the material, but it won’t be nostalgic. It will be much scarier than people expect.”
“With his first film, Miller made Sin City live and breathe by capturing the look and style of his source material and expertly guiding an all-star cast,” stated Deborah Del Prete. “We cannot wait to see how he utilizes his endless talents in bringing Eisner’s vision of The Spirit to the screen.”
Uslan: “What makes Frank’s involvement with The Spirit particularly poignant was his special relationship with Will Eisner, captured last year in the book, Eisner-Miller. In it, you have two of the medium’s greatest storytellers of sequential art and cinematic comics discussing the ins-and-outs of the compelling and controversial art form.” Source: Newsarama
