The Rocketboom, Boom
I’ve held off commenting on the Rocketboom saga that has been done to death on the internet, mainly because I had never seen show, heck, I hadn’t even heard of it until checking out techmeme to see what was going on. I just watched the interview and read the piece at MSN on the show, and was struck by her statement,
“I think I have a kind of unique way of making friends through video that I don’t think that many people have really tapped in on yet in the mainstream and otherwise.”
I think I have a kind of unique way of making friends through video, hmmm, so I finally went to Rocketboom to check out some of the video’s. The first I watched was today’s piece from the new piece, err anchor, Joanne Colan, who looks remarkably like Amanda Congdon. I wasn’t impressed, some video of buffalo being tagged? That’s it? I understand they are in a transition phase and trying to make it new and fresh, okay, I wouldn’t call it new and fresh yet, if she didn’t sound different, you would probably confuse the two hosts as being the same.
Note: Andrew did show some class by giving everyone the link to find her personal site.
So, I decided to check out the previous days video, since most of the comments liked it a lot better, it was okay, nothing that will keep me coming back. I also checked some of the old videos with Amanda, wasn’t impressed by those either, I mean both of these women are beautiful, but is that the only reason people watch? We made videos like this when I was in Junior High and called it the news, but I really don’t see anything that is very appealing to me, not saying the shows are bad or anything, just not my cup of tea.
Anyway, back to Amanda’s statement, which just sounds to me like she is trying to build herself up, which I can understand, she wants to keep doing what she is doing and making money at it to boot.
“I think that video blogging is best done online, and TV is fantastic,” Congdon said. “My interest has always been to bridge the gap… I would never want to just focus on television. I would want to continue video blogs with anything else I pursue. This is really who I’ve become, and I can’t imagine not working on an interactive medium.”
But I would like for her to explain what she means, as it is I just assume it’s because she’s pretty and has a good personality.
Just read Mark Evans post, he thinks it’s okay, but he also hadn’t seen todays video, wonder what he thinks now? I agree with him, the content will make the difference.
